Beijing Roast Duck

Join in Panda Volunteer Program

Panda Base: Dujiangyan Panda Base

Program Length: 08:30-17:00

At present, Dujiangyan Panda Base is the only place for travelers joining in panda volunteer programs. During the program, you can have a very close contact with the cute giant pandas: cleaning their enclosures, preparing for their food (bamboo, panda cakes, fruit), feeding them and take photos with the loving creatures. Besides, you can pay extra fee to hold a giant panda for once-in-lifetime experience. After the volunteer work, you’ll receive the certificate and souvenirs provided by the Panda Base.

Sichuan Cuisine

Sichuan Cuisine is also known as Szechuan Cuisine in the West. Famous for its spicy and pungent flavor, Sichuan Cuisine likes to use chili, pepper and prickly ash, and garlic, ginger and fermented soybean are also used in the cooking process. Seasonings are very important in Sichuan Cuisine, and if the cook is skillful enough, seven flavors – sour, sweet, bitter spicy, tongue-numbing, aromatic and salty should be detected. Sichuan hot pots are perhaps the most famous hotpots in the world, most notably the Yuan Yang Hotpot - half spicy and half clear. Other recommended dishes are Mao Tofu, Twice Cooked Sliced Pork, Kung Pao Chicken, Fuqi Fei Pian (Braised Cow Lungs), etc.

Yangshuo Countryside Sightseeing

Time Needed: a half day

Travelers get out of Yangshuo country and do some featured activities to explore the idyllic countryside scenery. You can do some hiking: (a) hike along Yulong River for 12 km; (b) hike from Yangdi to Xingping along the Li River; or do bamboo rafting to watch the amazing views in Yulong River area-watch the countryside just drifting on by. Rides range from half an hour to five hours. If you want to explore by car, you’ll start from Yangshuo West Street and then head to G321 to cycle along Ten-mile Gallery with beautiful karst landscape, fields and buffalos, etc. You’ll Pass Butterfly Spring, Big Banyan Tree Scenic Area, Moon Hill, Moon Hill Village and tour around. After the happy time in the countryside, ride back to Yangshuo County.

Yangshuo Traditional Taichi Learning

Place:Shibanqiao Village, 200 m from Yangshuo Longtoushan Pier

Tai Chi is one of China’s most prominent and ancient arts, which is practiced for defense training and health benefits. Tai Chi Chuan training involves five elements, Taolu (solo hand and weapons routines/forms), Neigong & Qigong (breathing, movement and awareness exercises and meditation), Tuishou (response drills) and Sanshou (self defence techniques). Travelers can learn Chen Style Tai Chi Chuan in the Taichi School of Yangshuo. The school is not far from the Yangshuo West Street.

Kung Fu Learning at Miaolong Martial Art School

The school was established in 1980 (Formerly named Songshan Shaolin Martial Arts School), which is not only the first comprehensive martial arts school assembling the personnel training in science, Martial Arts and movies, but also one of the Kungfu training institutions authorized by the Ministry of Education to recruit foreign students.

You can take 1-hour training or longer in the school to learn some Kungfu with the local students, or spend few days living there to deeply experience the charm of Chinese Kungfu and take a series of training.

Learn to Make Chinese Food

Place: Family visit in Xian, Cooking Class in Yangshuo

When you visit Xian, you can learn home-made flavor dumpling at the local family. The family member will usually prepare the materials of the dumpling before your arrive. They will teach how to make dumpling hand by hand. After all finished, you can eat your own dishes together with the local family, and chat with them to know more about Chinese culture and the local life. The cooking is usually arranged at lunch, and it will take you more than two hours.

There are two cooking classes in Yangshuo every day, from 09:30 to 13:30 and from 15:30 to 19:30. You can choose the dishes to learn and cook 3 to 4 dishes in every class. In the class, you will learn how to properly heat a wok and when to toss fresh vegetables into the sizzling oil; how to properly chop vegetables; how to properly use the right amount of spice, which should enhance the dish, but not overpower it.

Explore Hutong by Rickshaw

Hutong is the unique residential unites created by local which combine living, trade and entertainment together. Every Hutong has its own story, every street tells its own history. Get on a rickshaw and explore the ancient alleyway of Hutongs in Shichahai area or in Bell and Drum Tower area. Shichahai Hutong is made up of 15 smaller hutongs and many former courtyards of celebrities are in the hutong, such as the Prince Kung’s Mansion, the Former Residence of Guo Moruo. During the 1-hour rickshaw trip, travelers can explore fabulous Ming Dynasty Hutong architecture, boutique bars, and local leisure life of Beijinger.
