Why Beijing Need to Construct Another Airport

There are two main reasons for Beijing to construct the new airport:

1) Beijing is in the desperate need of a second global gateway to share the exceeding capacity of Beijing Capital International Airport and meet the increasing demands of both domestic and international flights to/off Beijing. Beijing Capital International Airport, the second busiest airport in the world, handled more than 100 million passengers in 2018, though its designed annual capacity is 83 million passengers. When Daxing Airport is fully opened, it will initially accommodate at least 100 million passengers and four million tons of cargo a year when fully opened.

2) The opening of Daxing International Airport is beneficial to build a promising “air transport-related economic zone” to develop the economies of Beijing, Hebei and Tianjin, one of the most populated areas in China.
