A. 1 Day Panda Volunteer Program at Bifengxia Panda Base

Pre-work Training 1 Day in Advance of Volunteer Activity

For Bifengxia panda volunteers(particularly for a group of over 10 volunteers), you are required to get to the panda base 1 day in advance for checking in at the volunteer service center, attending the pre-work introduction and training about the daily work of the staff of Bifengxia Panda Base and how to do that, getting the volunteer’s suits, gloves, cards and being divided into several groups according to the number of volunteers and staff guides.

The training begins at around 15:00 before your volunteer day and usually lasts for about 1.5 hour. For most panda volunteers, they usually get to Bifengxia Panda Base from Chengdu city which is about 150km far away and needs about 2.5 hours for driving. It is recommended to plan your schedule so not to miss or be late for the training and get good preparation for your volunteer experience.

Missing the pre-work training 1 day in advance?

If you are late because of the jam or delay of flights/trains, the staff can also offer the pre-work training for you at around 8:40 in the morning on your volunteer day before your volunteer work. (Pre-work training arrangement tips: for a group of over 10 volunteers, you are required to join the training 1 day in advance. And if there are fewer than 10 people, you could also join it on the morning of the right volunteer day.)

Which Bifengxia Volunteer Program to Choose, 1 Day or 3 Days?

You are suggested to choose the volunteer program according to your trip time and budget. If you have more days in China and want more days with adorable pandas, you are suggested to choose the 3 Days Volunteer Program. While if you are in hurry and want to add more attractive destinations into your travel list, spending one whole day hanging out with these cuddly creatures there will also be great!

Useful Notes for Joining Panda Volunteers

1. Opening time of Bifengxia Panda Base: 08:30-16:00, every day.

2. Fees: All expenses of base ticket, sightseeing vehicle, lunch, working suit, gloves, passing card, program service fees are included in your volunteer fee.

3. Good Services: Volunteer’s working suits, gloves, volunteer’s passing cards, pre-work training, Entire accompany (English, Chinese & Japanese), sightseeing vehicle, lunch at the dining hall.

4. All the time and arrangement mentioned above may be adjusted based on practical situations.

5. Your English-speaking guide will accompany you through your volunteer program, so you don’t have to worry about the communication and just enjoy your meaningful experience with pandas.

Requirements & Limitations for Panda Volunteers & Holders

1. Numbers & Ages: The center can accept up to 40 volunteers at one time (only 20 volunteers once in July and August) and the age should be between 8 and 70.

2. Health Examination Form: Being a volunteer, you should apply it a week in advance with your Application Form and Health Examination Form (valid medical certificate and signature within the recent half year which could apply it in your country or in China). Interested people could feel free to contact our travel consultant for more information or let them register for you.

3. No Strong Smells: For pandas have keen sense of smell, volunteers should avoid using perfume or other odorous articles like mosquito repellent liquid or nail polish, skin care products, makeups, etc. on the volunteering work day.

4. Healthy Bodies: To well protect giant pandas, volunteers are required to be healthy, and people who are suffering from illness, like a cold, fever, influenza, and other infectious diseases are not suitable to have physical contact with the giant pandas.

5. Force Majeure: The panda volunteer program is to be delayed or inaccessible if there is Force Majeure like earthquakes, epidemic... Also, the inevitable requirement and control of the government, country may influence your volunteer program.

How to Get to Bifengxia Panda Base

Bifengxia Panda Base is situated in Yucheng District of Ya’an City in Sichuan, China, about 150km away southwest from Sichuan’s capital city Chengdu, which needs only 2.5 hours around by car. Tourists usually get to Bifengxia Panda Base from Chengdu downtown. Most of them prefer traveling by private car, while some independent travelers may also choose the long-distance coaches.
