How to Get to Chaotianmen Dock from Chongqing Train Stations?

Chongqing has altogether 4 mostly used train stations, namely Chongqing Railway Station (重庆站), Chongqing North Railway Station (重庆北站), Chongqing West Railway Station (重庆西站), and Shapingba Railway Station (沙坪坝站). The closest train station to Chaotianmen is Chongqing Railway Station, which is only about 6km away (about 20 minutes’ drive). Chongqing West Railway Station is the farthest one, which needs almost 1 hour’ drive by car (22km). Chongqing Shapingba Railway Station is about 16km from Chaotianmen Dock. Driving from Shapingba Railway Station to Chaotianmen Dock needs about 40 minutes. Driving from Chongqing North Railway Station to Chaotianmen Dock takes about 35 minutes.

Chongqing Railway Station is also called Caiyuanba Railway Station (菜园坝火车站) by locals. This station and Chaotianmen Dock are both located at Yuzhong District at the junction of Yangtze River and Jialing River. Chaotianmen sits right at the confluence of two rivers, while Chongqing Railway Station is settled on the Yangtze River side. The driving distance between Chongqing Train Station and Chaotianmen Dock is about 6km. Driving from one side to the other needs about 20 minutes.

At present, only several normal trains from Beijing, Mount Wudang, etc. make stops at Chongqing Railway Station.

Chongqing North Railway Station is the most complex train station in Chongqing. It has two separate squares. Walking from one square to the other needs 30 minutes around. You can also take Chongqing Light Rail Transit Line 10 (metro line 10) to travel between the two squares. At present, Chongqing North Railway Station is one of the most frequently used train stations in Chongqing City. It provides service for trains from Shanghai, Nanjing, Lanzhou, Chengdu, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, etc.

The driving distance from Chaotianmen to both South Square and North Square of Chongqing North Railway Station are 11km. It takes about 35 minutes by car.

Chongqing West Railway Station is the newest and largest Railway Station in Chongqing. It runs trains to/from Shanghai, Xian, Guiyang, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Changsha, Kunming, Shenzhen, etc.

Travel from Chongqing West Railway Station to Chaotianmen needs about 1 hour around. However, sometimes there are some traffic jams around this newly-built station. Therefore, you are suggested to leave yourself at least half an hour more for the travel if your trains arriving at/departing from Chongqing West Railway Station. Compared with Chongqing North Railway Station and Chongqing West Railway Station, there are less scheduled trains making stops at Shapoingba Railway Station. However, some trains from/to Chengdu also depart from/arrive at this station.
