At present, there is one high speed train running from Shanghai to Guilin each day. It departs from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station at about 10:00 and arrives at nearly 19:00 at Guilin North Railway Station. The whole high speed train journey costs almost 9 hours. Apart from the high speed train, there are a few normal trains from Shanghai to Guilin as well, but all of them are overnight trains taking 17 ~ 24.5 hours.

The high speed rail from Shanghai to Guilin is one section of Shanghai Nanning High Speed Railway. It is 1,602 kilometers (995 miles) long, passing through 3 provinces – Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Hunan.
