Day 1 Luoyang Arrival

Welcome to Luoyang, one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China! Your local guide and driver will meet you at Luoyang train station or the airport and escort you to your hotel in a private vehicle. The rest of today is free for you to explore this ancient city on your own.

How to Get to Luoyang? It is available to take a flight to Luoyang from Beijing (2hrs), Shanghai (2hrs), Chengdu (2hrs), Chongqing (2hrs), Guangzhou (2.5hrs), etc., or take a high speed train to Luoyang from Xian (1.5hrs), Zhengzhou (40mins), Beijing (3.5hrs), Shanghai (5.5hrs), Nanjing (3.5 ~ 4 hours), Hangzhou (about 5.5 hours), etc.

Day 2 Luoyang - Sholin Temple - Mount Song - Luoyang (B, L)

After breakfast, you will be picked up by your tour guide at your hotel, and be driven 55km (1.5hrs) to Shaolin Temple. Spending about 2 hours exploring this birthplace of Zen Buddhism and the cradle of Kung Fu. You will visit the grandiose temples and halls, admire stone carving art, learn about Buddhism culture, and observe the daily living and meditation of monks in the temple. Don't miss the famous Pagoda Forest, the existing largest pagoda forest in China. When an important monk passed away, their cremains or skeleton would be put into the underground palace, and a pagoda will be built on it. The pagoda's height, size and number of layers will be decided according to the monk's Buddhism knowledge, reputation and merits and virtues during his lifetime. You will also enjoy a magnificent Kung Fu Show in Shaolin Wushu Hall which is daily performed by martial monks of Shaolin Temple, and usually lasts for half hour.

Leaving the temples complex, you will take a cable car to reach the starting point of Sanhuang Village trail which is the most beautiful part of Mount Song. There are stone stairs like amazing skyroad over 3 kilometers constructed on the mountain cliff. It is peaceful, mystical, surprising and unique to walk on the stairs, get amazed by vertical rock surfaces in layers that were formed 2 billion years ago, and enjoy panoramic scenery of Mount Song. Without many ups-and-downs, Sanhuang Village hiking is very enjoyable and can be done by most travelers even seniors and kids.

After the hiking, take cable car to descend the mountain and transfer back to Luoyang City.

Day 3 Luoyang Longmen Grottoes Tour & Departure (B, L)

After breakfast, start today's trip with a visit to Luoyang Museum which is nicely designed, new, spacious and less crowded, with a good collection of Chinese artefacts dating from the Neolithic period onwards, such as historical relics, calligraphy, pottery, paintings etc. The best pieces are located in a room called "special treasures" where you find the Tang Tri-color Glazed Potteries and other bronze-copper relics.

After visiting Longyang Museum, drive about 20 minutes' driving to the iconic site of Luoyang - Longmen Grottoes. Densely scattered along the cliffs on both banks of Yi River, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Longmen Grottoes contains the largest and most impressive collection of Chinese art of the late Northern Wei and Tang Dynasties (316-907). You’ll appreciate the Chinese Buddhist art by visiting the major caves (Fengxian Temple, Guyang Cave, Three Bingyang Caves, etc.) with notable displays of Buddhist sculptures and calligraphic inscriptions.

Lastly, you will be transferred to train station to catch your train to next destination. Your memorable Shaolin Temple Luomen Grottoes heritage tour ends.

1. This price is for one person, based on a group of 2 adults sharing one standard double-bed room in 4-star hotel and traveling with our private tour in low seasons.
2. This price is subject to change according your traveling season, group size, hotel class, change of activities in your itinerary and possible fluctuation of currency exchange rate. If you want a lower price, you can get more people to join you, or use economy class hotels.
3. This price is only valid to March 31, 2025.
4. Reference exchange rate of USD 1=RMB 6.85. The final quote is based on current exchange rate. It may change according to the currency fluctuation, while the RMB quotation will be remained the same.

Thanks! I had a weekend away to Xi’an, China to celebrate my birthday. It was an exciting weekend and it was certainly something off the beaten trail for most of my friends. The itinerary you have suggested provided good coverage of the city’s rich history. From the fascinating Terracotta Army to the City Walls to the sacred Mount Hua, to the Muslim Quarter to the Drum & Bell Towers, there’s an interesting story from every historical era in Xi’an. I managed to hike up Mount Hua from North Peak to West Peak, but I didn’t get to do the dangerous plank walk as it was closed.

The hotel Eastern House was very accessible too with food places within steps and its proximity to the Drum Tower is a plus. The room was very clean and comfortable.

At this point, I have to quickly mention our amazing tour guide Betty Jiao Yan who was assigned to us as part of our private tour package. She made our time feel so very special and I wonder if Xi'an would have been as awesome without her. She had such a positive and caring nature and when we had to say goodbye, we felt very sad. It was strange to miss a guide after only knowing her for 5 days! Luckily we still keep in touch on WeChat. Our driver Mr Ma was very polite, punctual and accommodating, making our travel a pleasant experience
