Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries

As the national treasure in China, Giant Panda is not just welcomed in China, but also in the whole world. Though, Pandas can be seen in many places, Sichuan containing more than 30% of the world's pandas gets most attractions. In 2006, Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries was list as world natural heritage.

Travel to Sichuan to visit Giant Panda, there are different types of Giant Panda in Sichuan according to the different habitats, which are Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Center and Bifengxia Panda Base. Both places are the main sanctuaries for Sichuan Giant Panda. Note: Wolong Panda Base was damaged during the 2008 earthquake, and a large number of Pandas were transfer to Bifengxia Panda Base. Presently, Wolong Panda Base is under construction.

Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Center

With 10 km away from Chengdu city, Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Center (Chengdu Panda Base) is the nearest place to see Panda when traveling to Chengdu. Eating is the favorite thing for Pandas and most other times for them is sleep, so tourists should visit in the morning at the feeding time of 8:00-10:00, when it’s the time to find the cutest side of Giant Panda. Sadly, Chengdu Panda Base has suspended the program to hold a panda and take pictures with them, so if you want experience that, Bifengxia Panda Base can meet your need.

During your volunteer program, you will learn how to rescue sick panda outside, do the panda feeding, get to know the way the cute pandas communicate with humans, and more activities to contact with panda, even holding it. After the program, you will be given a certificate and souvenir in memory of your volunteer day experience.

Bifengxia Panda Base

Bifengxia Panda Base is located in Ya’an city with 2 hours’ driving from Chengdu. Living in the Bifengxia scenic area, Pandas in Bifengxia has more natural habitat and the quantities are larger than Chengdu Pandas. What’s more, tourists can enjoy a delightful experience of Panda volunteer program to feed them bread and vegetables. Also you can hold them to take pictures.

Note: Join in the Panda Volunteer Program Tour, you should be 12 years old or up. And the length is up to you: short term (1-7 days), middle term (8-15 days) or long term (more than 15 days).
