Zhangjiajie and Guilin are world-famous scenic cities attracting millions of visitors to come every year. Both are located in the south of China, only 611 kilometers away from each other, and the picturesque landscapes and diversified minority culture are the must-go reasons for your trip.
Direct Zhangjiajie Guilin Flight/Train
Although the geographical distance between Guilin and Zhangjiajie is relatively close, there is no regular non-stop flight available. At present, you can travel from Zhangjiajie to Guilin by a high speed train. If you fail to book the train, you can also travel via Shanghai, Xian, Changsha or Nanning.

Option 1: Zhangjiajie to Guilin High Speed Train (Most Recommended)
There is one daily high speed train running from Zhangjiajie to Guilin. It departs from Zhangjiajie West Railway Station in the morning and arrives at Guilin North Railway Station and Guilin Railway Station. The whole trip takes about 7 ~ 7.5 hours. Option 2: Zhangjiajie - Changsha - Guilin (A Great Alternative)
Zhangjiajie - (normal train / flight) - Changsha - (bullet train) - Guilin
Changsha is located in between the east of Zhangjiajie and Guilin. There are plenty of bullet trains bounding for Guilin with flights and normal trains from Zhangjiajie. You can take the 5 hours’ normal train or 1 hour’s flight at Zhangjiajie, heading to Changsha, then catch your bullet train at Changsha South Railway Station. The bullet train will carry you with high speed and comfortableness and arrive at Guilin in 3.5 hours, by which you can transfer between the two cities within one day.

Take Train T8324 from Zhangjiajie railway (8:15am) station to Changsha Railway Station
(12:40pm) and then take Metro Line 2 inside the station and stop at Changsha
South Railway Station where you can take high speed bullet train to Guilin. It is about 11km between
the two train stations, and takes about 30 min to transfer either by car or metro.

Though there are also some other trains running to Changsha from Zhangjiajie, they all depart in the afternoon, which are not reachable to catch the bullet train in the other train station. If you would like to take a normal train to Changsha, please ensure train T8324 is the only selected one.

Zhangjiajie Changsha Flight
Besides the normal trains, you have multiple other choices transferring between Zhangjiajie and Changsha by air. After your landing at Changsha Huanghua Airport, the maglev train (CNY 20 Per Person) inside the Terminal 1 can transfer you directly from the airport to the East Square of Changsha South Railway Station (bullet train station; 磁浮高铁站；Pinyin: Cifugaotiezhan) within 20min. You only need to walk a few minutes to the bullet train check-in entrance which is to the west of the maglev train Exit A and B.

Changsha ↔ Guilin (Bullet Train)
There are plenty of high speed bullet trains shuttling between Changsha and Guilin, which provides you a comfortable and fast travelling experience with only 3.5 hours per ride. For trains departing from Changsha to Guilin, the earliest one leaves at 7am, and last one is about 4:30pm, and for trains from Guilin to Changsha are running from 8am to 6pm. If you take train T8324 from Zhangjiejia and it arrives around 1 pm, to reserve enough time for transferring, you may need to book bullet trains after 3pm but before the last train at 4:30pm, or take your time wondering at Mount Yuelu or Hunan Museum and continue your journey the next day.

Option 3: Zhangjiajie - Liuzhou - Guilin (By Train)
Zhangjiajie - (normal trian) - Liuzhou - (bullet train) - Guilin
Liuzhou is a prefecture city near Guilin. There are a lot 1 hour’s bullet trains shuttling to Guilin everyday with overnight trains coming from Zhangjiajie. If you don’t mind trying the normal train and save your money for the other travelling plan, you can take train T281 to Liujiang Railway Station and transfer to Liuzhou Station so that you can get on the bullet train to Guilin. It is time consuming but also adventurous.
Zhangjiajie ↔ Liuzhou(Normal Train)
Zhangjiajie and Guilin are located in Hunan province and Guangxi province. As a prefecture city near to the borderline of the two provinces, Liuzhou serves as a transferring city with a number of bullet trains to Guilin and several overnight trains from Zhangjiajie. Though there are altogether 3 trains to Liuzhou, train T281 is the only recommended one, since other trains arrive in the midnight, which are not convenient for you to transfer from the normal train station (Liujiang Railway Station) to the Bullet Train Station (Liuzhou Station).

Since the distance between the two train stations is only about 13km (40min by car). You can either grab a cab or take Bus No. 99 outside the train station. Please make sure that you have reserve at least an hour for transferring.

Liuzhou↔Guilin (Bullet Train)
There are high speed trains departing almost every an hour from Liuzhou Railway Station to Guilin Railway Station. The duration for each ride is usually within 1.5 hours and the train schedule is from 7am to 10pm. For the bullet trains heading back to Liuzhou, the earliest train is at 7:20am and the last one leaves by 6:15pm.

Option 4: Zhangjiajie - Nanning - Guilin (By Train)
Zhangjiajie- (normal trian) - Nanning - (bullet train) - Guilin
There are also overnight trains bounding for Nanning from Zhangjiajie. Though the distance is much further than Zhangjiajie to Guilin and the overnight train takes longer time than arriving at Liuzhou, the advantage is still there: you can get on your bullet train directly at Nanning Railway Station and arrive at Guilin in about 2.5 hours.

Nanning ↔ Guilin (Bullet Train)
There are plenty of bullet trains departing either from Nanning Railway station or Nanning East Railway Station according to different schedules.
Please make sure that you purchase the ticket departing from Nanning Railway station, otherwise you may need to get on your train at the other station.
The Nanning Guilin shuttling bullet train starts at around 7am and ends at 7pm every day. Your arrival will be at Guilin North Railway Station or Guilin Railway Station. Please notice the different railway station locations before booking your tickets.

Option 5: Zhangjiajie - Xian - Guilin (By Air)
Zhangjiajie - (flight) - Xian - (flight) - Guilin
Xian is to the north of both Zhangjiajie and Guilin. It seems that you need go backwards of your destination. However, regarded as a famous scenic city, Xian also has a lot to see with flights to Zhangjiajie and Guilin, and it can save your time on the way and what may replace it will be better travelling experience in the transferring city, Xian. For each flight, it is about 2 hours.
Zhangjiajie ↔ Xian(By Air)
As a historic scenic city, Xian is recommended as a transferring city where you can take flights to both Zhangjiajie and Guilin or stop by for several days to enjoy the majestic cultural wonder: Terracotta Warriors and the ancient city wall.
